Automation in FBU “CSM of Nizhny Novgorod ” What’s good for leaders – is good for everybody

Laboratory automation and management system UniTesS is a relatively new, but has already earned a great reputation among leading laboratories involved in checking and calibration of MM and equipment testing. After the UniTesS complex has passed “testing” on the Belarusian market, and its users are such major institutions as Belarussian State Institute of metrology, Belarusian State Institute of standardization and certification, as well as the National Center of certification and testing BELLIS, the product entered the Russian market.

FBU “Test-Saint-Petersburg” became the first shot, the first stage of works on automation of which ended in June of the year 2015. Not so long ago finished the first phase of the project on the automation of workplaces in FBU “CSM of Nizhny Novgorod”, where UniTesS DB database was also launched for automatic management of laboratories.

Within the phase the following workstations have been installed and are running:

1. AWP for oscilloscope calibration over the interface based on oscilloscope calibrator Fluke 9500.

 Customer’s staff has been trained not only the for the technology of AWP exploitation, but also for the independent expansion of the list of calibrated MMs.

2. AWP for voltmeter calibration over the interface based on multifunctional calibrator Fluke 5520.

AWP is designed for calibration of the following voltmeters:

  • Agilent 34401A, 34405A, 34410A, 34411A,

3. AWP for multimeters calibration without interface with computer vision based on calibrators H4-17, fluke 5520

ARM implements calibration methodology of the following multimeters:

  • MAS 830, MS 8222G, MY-61, 68
  • DT 838, 9202A, 9208A

During a standard calibration procedure a single point must be measured many times and each time the measurement uncertainty should be recounted. After the automation has been completed, this is no longer necessary, as a result the performance and accuracy of work increased by greatly.

4. AWP for multimeters verification without interface with computer vision based on calibrators H4-17, fluke 5520

AWP is designed for calibration of the following multimeters:

  • Fluke: 17B, 83V, 87V, 110, 179, 287
  • Appa 61,71, 80, 91, 97, 98, 101, 301, 503

AWP operating using machine vision, reads the values of measured values from multimeters screens. The programme works on the basis of pattern recognition algorithm, and this algorithm can be easily taught to recognize data from the new types of indicators.

That’s what got the CSM of Nizhny Novgorod through Automation:

  • a significant increase in speed of measurement and work capacity of laboratories;
  • reduction of payback period for reference standards/MM;
  • increase in interchangeability of personnel;
  • working with reference equipment can be handled by less qualified personnel without the reduction of work capacity and quality.
  • complete objectivity of measurement results and exclusion of the possibility of an impact on the results;
  • the risks of damage to equipment due to improper operation were almost completely eliminated;
  • the load on employees was significantly decreased.

And something else:

  • measurement procedure is implemented using open code that provides the possibility to modify AWPs even by staff with no experience of software development;
  • with the help of UniTesS software it is possible to implement any methods of verification/calibration/testing;
  • It comes standard with the adjusted module of computer vision for reading data from screens of different technologies;
  • the possibility of creating a semi-automated and combined workplaces:
  • One part of devices is managed by the interface, the other part manually (on demand), readings may be read using computer vision;
  • possibility of simultaneous work with an unlimited number of devices,
  • indirect measurements are also allowed;
  • A rapid training of employees even with little work experience;
  • simple and straightforward system of work with protocols templates;

UniTesS DB database provides electronic workflow and enables you to clearly organize and control all business processes in the laboratory;

Management and automation system in UniTesS laboratory combines the capabilities of metrological database, task manager, electronic document management, automated work places and can become the basis for your laboratory. With the introduction of UniTesS there would be no need for management and administration of multiple databases and software products.

For laboratory personnel UniTesS is a software with a simple user interface, which always tells you what to do next, will help to save work results and to obtain the necessary information. UniTesS is very simple to learn and is preferred by all employees, regardless of age and qualifications.

FBU “CSM of Nizhny Novgorod” noted the high effectiveness of implemented solutions, and signed a contract for the automation of its remaining workplaces with SW UniTesS.
